Learning to walk to walking on fire

Two weeks before Tony Robbins’s Sydney event, “Unleash the power within”, I impulsively bought a ticket! I had been tossing up the idea for over a month, but couldn’t make a decision as to whether or not I should go. There was a flash sale which was ending at 6pm, so at 4.30pm my mind was suddenly made up – I was going to Tony.

It was the best decision I had ever made. 1 room, 4 days, 56 hours, 6000 people all there with a similar mindset, to become the best version of ourselves! What made this weekend even more incredible was that exactly 12 months prior, I was learning to walk and now I was walking, jumping and running around the room. I could not believe how much my life had changed over one year!

On the first night we walked on fire – Not fake fire, the real deal! We saw them building these 4 meter long fire pits, into which they dumped fresh coals after every 100 walkers. I remember sitting there thinking “am I crazy?!” BUT there was method behind their madness. This walk was to prove that with the right mindset, every single one of us is capable of doing anything.

Tony’s theory is simple: if you go into any situation and believe in yourself without a shadow of a doubt you can accomplish virtually everything, including things that some people believe are impossible.
This instantly took me back to when I came out of my brain surgery with doctors, nurses and even my parents unsure of whether or not I would be able to walk again. I remember believing with 100% certainty that I would be able to move my leg, and knowing that as long as I could do that then I would be able to learn how to walk again! The fact is if we don’t believe in ourselves we won’t ever be able to put our all into it because we are distracted by doubt.

It was surreal to use the same mindset that I had used to learn to walk, to do something as absurd as walking on fire, but as I crossed the burning coals it became evident that as long as I believe in myself, anything, is indeed possible.
